could be sleeping

Went the the Hunger Games premiere last night, like a boss.

We waited in line for quite some time and if I do say so myself it was worth it. I was so immensely satisfied. Especially by the acting. You worry that with a big franchise like this they might not cast things right, but everyone was perfect. I was beyond impressed. My only disappointment? Myself.

I do this really bad thing where I build stuff up in my head so much. And then when it's still incredibly good and well-done, it doesn't meet those expectations. Because they're ALWAYS unrealistic. Always. As in, there's probably no way I could have been more satisfied than I am, and I still have this little ache of disappointment. But, you know, it's okay. It's my own fault, really. I know I do this all the time, but I had forgotten because it had been a while since I had been excited enough for a movie to set such high expectations. Now I remember that I used to walk into every movie with low expectations, and they would be exceeded every time, without fail. So I'll remember that from now on.

Still, I loved the move. Let me make sure you understand - I wasn't like, "OH MY GOSH I'M GONNA DIE THAT WAS SO OVERWHELMING." But I WAS like, "OH. My goodness. So good. SOOO good. Incredible!"

Yeah?

Okay.

Anyway. Whenever I go see movies that compel me like this, it makes me want to be in the film industry. Really really bad.

When I was little, I would make my Christmas lists like this:

-clothes
-candy
-blah blah movie
-blah blah board game
-AGENT

Because I wanted to act in movies. Isn't that a funny story? Wasn't I such a strange child? Yes, I was.

But I gotta tell you, when I go to certain movies, that feeling always returns when they finish. And I sit in the theater after and just say "Why, Mom and Dad? WHY?!" in my head. But most of the time I know that it wouldn't have been a good thing and I'm really grateful I'm not in Hollywood and I probably wouldn't have gotten there anyway.

Nowadays I just feel more like I want to direct or write screenplay. Wouldn't that be cool?

I'm seriously considering it.

Anyway. Pretty tired. I could be taking a nap right now, but I have opted out to waste time online for a bit, since it's rather cathartic and always a nice way to start my weekend.

Hope yours is lovely! And go see the movie if you haven't.

Parents Trapped.

I watched The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan tonight with some friends. Such a good movie. We ate oreos and peanut butter while we watched. And I laughed because I forgot how funny it is. Especially Martin the Butler.

Really though, it just made me miss my parents a lot.

Do you see it?

The crinkly eyes of Dennis Quaid never fail to remind me of my Dad when he smiles.

Food! Customers! Smiling!

{prelude}
I left work when school started, due to the fact that my schedule was going to be pretty busy with stuco and Productions. Luckily, when I left I talked to my boss and he said when I was ready to come back I could. So that was all just super convenient since I had a job waiting for me once I finished Pride & Prejudice.

{present time}
I started working again! Yay. I think. This is awesome, because I'm making money. I definitely need that green stuff for gas, and for college too. In fact, I'm realizing more and more how important that green stuff is in life. And how it will always be important... But I digress.

The unfortunate thing is that I've been scheduled a LOT since I started. More money, but less time. I know I shouldn't complain, because I'm so lucky to have this job. But my feet hurt. And I'm exhausted. And I'm doing it all over again tomorrow. And apparently I don't smile enough? I've been told I need to smile more by my manager a few times now. I feel so bad! I have this problem you see, that I've been aware of for a few years now: When I don't think about how my face is composed, it looks super negative. I look like I'm mad or something. I'll walk down the hall and people will ask me if I'm doing okay because I look sad. But I'm usually not. Most of the time I'm just... thinking or something. So basically my face is negative. I guess this is proving a problem at work since I have to always appear happy and smiling for the lovely customers. Hooray.

All in all, I'm fine, though. Just thought I'd get that out.

Yesterday I spent a delightful afternoon with Shelby and Hannah (I'm linking them because they're so cool). So fun. The best part? I saw this movie:

The King's Speech

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Go. See. This. Movie.

I don't know what else I can say. Everything was perfect. The actors, the costumes, the setting, the story, the cinematography... everything. I just loved every second of it. I fully support Colin Firth winning Best Actor, and the movie winning Best Picture.

Bahhh. Watch it.

And have a great day.

Tonight, after a rousing game of Apples to Apples in which Natalie pronounced Leonardo Da Vinci's name as LENARD Da Vinci, my family and I all gathered downstairs and watched two Alfred Hitchcock films. The first was a twenty minute vignette about a mentally unstable young man who thinks he can be a real magician with just a wand and ends up sawing a lady in half. It was called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". The second was called "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (don't get it confused with the later and more popular movie with the same name, kiddies...). Basically, this guy knows too much, has his daughter kidnapped, is blackmailed, follows the case, breaks into a church that's actually headquarters for the villians, and everything ends up happy (which is quite a novelty for a Hitchcock movie).

Man, did Alfred know suspense.

After my dreary summaries, you may think that was sarcasm. But really, it wasn't. That man knew how to make a horror film (he knew too much, actually... ha ha... subtle reference to previous movie)! He was the first to really MAKE horror films, actually. Nowadays all the scary movies we see are filled with blood, gore, guns, explosions, and creepers. But Alfred's films, they were all psychological.

Ever seen Psycho?

No?! Go watch it. Now.

I'm not a big fan of scary movies. Really, I never watch them if I can help it. I just don't understand what's so exciting about freaking yourself out so much you can't walk upstairs without turning on all the lights. Then when you fall asleep, your imagination takes over and you're haunted by disturbing dreams, even when you know "it was just a movie". Yeah. Well, I'm not all that crazy about that.

But I enjoy classic Hitchcock. Tonight, as the music would swell and the suspense would build, I kept grabbing Trina's leg and squeezing. THAT's the sign of a good scary movie, I think. So go watch Alfred. In fact, come on over. We have 4 discs full of his short movies.

P.S.... That's him.
