blue

Some days you just wake up feeling melancholy, you know? And that's okay. I mean, it's awful and everything, but it's also okay. Because we all need melancholy days.

But then you end up feeling bad when someone you really care about is legitimately sick and you're just sitting around curled in a ball in your leggings and halloween socks trying to procrastinate the mountain of homework and that nasty group project and wishing you could just watch Hocus Pocus and take a nap and swim in your self-pity for a while and you suddenly think, "Oh, I'm so selfish." Because you don't even have a good reason behind any of that.

So you look outside at the mountains because it's your favorite time of day and they're glowing amber and you grit your teeth and do that stats assignment and you try to deal with the group even though nothing would get done without you and you make a care package for that person you really care about because they mean a lot to you and you just want to make things better because you don't like feeling helpless like that and lipton chicken noodle soup and ginger ale always make you feel better so maybe they will for them, too.

And you realize that serving will just make you happier like that.

Here's to hoping tomorrow is better.

wanna see something cool?

If you don't think my roommates are the best roommates in the whole world after watching these videos, shame on you.

1. The Paint Swatch Wall

2. Fresh Queens of Belmont 15

^^Second one here. I make no guarantees that you'll actually be able to watch it.

Needless to say, life is sweet right now. I've got the coolest apartment you ever did see, and I'm working hard after recent epiphany to put my study habits in order and organize my life effectively. It's going pretty well, I'd say. Tonight I don't have any homework to do (gasp!), and I get to spend it gazing at stars (astronomy project [that I'm starting early]) with a cute boy. So, there's that.

epiphany

You know those moments when something just smacks you real hard in the face?

And suddenly, as you sit there writing a BS paper at 1 in the morning, you realize that you're doing it all wrong.

You realize you are the world's biggest slacker, the world's best procrastinator. You realize you can get by the skin of your teeth in all things, and that's what you've been doing your entire college experience.

And you realize you don't even feel a thing when you accidentally forget to turn in an assignment online, or when you score a 14 out of 20 on yet another astronomy quiz. And school and homework is just this mind-numbing process you go through every day, but only just barely. Because you don't ever push yourself.

And you realize you spend way too much time online and stalking pictures of people you don't even care about, and not enough time figuring out what you actually care about and pursuing that. And you realize that you have so much potential and wasting your life like this is not how it's supposed to be.

And you realize that maybe if you stopped eating so unhealthy again and started drinking your water and eating your fruits and vegetables and working out you'd feel even better than you do now.

And you realize that getting to bed this late can no longer be an option. And your afternoons can't be spent watching Food Network, but they need to be spent studying for that test you have coming up because heaven knows you shouldn't be cramming like you always do.

And you realize you can't wait until you're dying to figure out how to live.

Because this Earth is beautiful. And it's here for your benefit. And the changing leaves are meant to be enjoyed. But not just on your hurried walk to school when you occasionally look up and think, "Wow," but once your homework is finished and you can go for a leisurely walk in a coat and a scarf and just enjoy the season.

And this university is grand and these people are lovely and the time is now and you've got to apply yourself.

Now.

Yeah, those are fun.

welcome to october

I seriously am having trouble believing it's already October. Even more crazy, do you guys know that I'm just about a third of the way done with fall semester?? A THIRD. That's insane, people. I still feel like we've just started. But the truth is, I've already taken 4 midterms and next week I take the second midterms for some classes. And that is just weird.

In other news, my life is really good. Really, really good. I'm enjoying school (for the most part), and sophomore year (despite some challenges) has turned out world better than freshman year.

I'm really happy, people.

In case any of you were wondering:

I can solve a medium level sudoku puzzle in 4 minutes during my stats class, which I think should just give me an automatic A since it's math-related, right? Right. Also, my record from last year is 3 1/2 minutes, I think, but I'm out of practice and slowly working back to that.

I'm still working on my handstand, however. My other roommates have the habit of just chilling in handstand position in the living room, and it's my goal to get there by the end of the year. I'll keep y'all updated.

My roommates and I have decided to work through all the different Halloweentown movies now that October is upon us, and I'm thrilled about it.

Roasted broccoli and carrots are my fallback.

Clogging is seriously so fun. I sincerely wish I had started earlier in my life, because I enjoy it so much. True, some days it kicks my butt and I may have mostly just stared on real confused Friday during class, but the best part is that I know if I practice I'll get it.

So here's to hoping your first day/week of October is just absolutely stellar (speaking of, I've recently been obsessed with drawing/making shirts of galaxies due to my Astronomy class).

Y'all are fantastic.

PS. Speaking of, any fantastic ideas for a Halloween costume? I always seem to procrastinate until the night before.
